Wells Fargo received $36.9 billion in bailout funds in 2008.
Earlier this year, according to the Huffington Post, “Federal investigators concluded that senior managers at Wells Fargo, the fourth-largest U.S. bank by assets, broke civil laws.” The Federal Reserve itself said in July that “more than 10,000 Wells Fargo borrowers were inappropriately steered into more expensive subprime mortgages or had their loan documents falsified by bank personnel.”
Wells Fargo continues to be one of the top ten servicers of sub-prime mortgages – with a portfolio in the tens of billions of dollars.
WE STAND FOR IMMIGRANT RIGHTS
Wells Fargo also owns about 4 million shares of GEO Group and about half a million
shares of CCA (Corrections Corporation of America), private prison companies that profit from the detention of undocumented workers in inhumane conditions.
Wells Fargo was one of the first financial institutions to begin accepting Matriculas
(Consular IDs) from Latino customers, in 2001. The bank has opened up approximately 525,000 accounts using Matriculas, comprising about 6% of the bank’s total accounts.
This means that Wells Fargo actively markets banking services to undocumented migrants, then knowingly uses these workers’ savings to invest in and profit from their detention.
Wells Fargo must answer for these illegal and cynical actions!
March with us on January 6 for economic justice and immigrant rights!

Don’t you love it when someone already has in place what you were wanting to put together? Occupy Educated is a fantastic site for finding great revolutionary reads, catching up with current events and participating in the discussion forums! Also please check our News and Analysis section on OSR’s site !![]()
Quoted from Occupy Educated’s site : “Unlike the plethora of other calls to “Occupy!” specific locations with your presence, the phrase “Occupy Educated” is not a call to Be Somewhere, it’s a call to Be Something.
Simply put, if you’re going to be Occupying anything, be Educated while doing so. Having a working knowledge of the issues and their root causes is essential to effectively communicating the need for change and formulating practical solutions. Frustration alone is not enough to cause lasting change, it can only come from a place of relevant, collective literacy.”

You asked for it, you g
ot it! The Agenda Submission Form is now ready for Working Groups to submit items to the Spokes Council WG’s upcoming agenda! The next meeting is tentatively set for Wednesday Dec. 28th. Time and place are not yet solidified. And as only half of tonight’s agenda items were covered, it seems the next meeting is quite full of topics. But once all these details of how the group functions are ironed out , this will indeed be a positive and effective space for all the WGs to come together, touch base and collaborate! We are looking forward to further coordination with all OSR WG’s and Affinity Groups!

Friday, January 6th at Noon
Old Alberston’s Parking Lot, Sebastopol Rd., Santa Rosa (Roseland)
This action is a joint-effort between Occupy Santa Rosa, the D.R.E.A.M Alliance of Sonoma County, Graton Day Labor Center, the Committee for Immigrants’ Rights, MEChA de SRJC, and more!
We are protesting Wells Fargo for investing billions of dollars into for-profit detention centers which imprison immigrant workers, while receiving billions in taxpayer bailouts and continuing with their illegal and fraudulent foreclosures. We will have a rally and press conference at Noon in the Old Alberston’s Parking Lot off of Sebastopol Rd. in Roseland. We will then march to the downtown Wells Fargo in Santa Rosa.
Invite all your friends and share this post far and wide!

There are so many exciting, re-energizing, educational, powerful events taking place every day with OSR, and our neighboring Northern Cal Occupies. It’s essential to keep our calendar up-to-date and for everyone to get the word out.
